Zantac® and its generic versions, ranitidine, are very popular heartburn/antacid medications that have been on the market since the early 1980s. They belong to a group of drugs called histamine-2 blockers. Zantac® (ranitidine) works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces. This medication is mainly used to treat acid reflux and other conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other gastrointestinal issues.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the RECALL of all prescription and over-the-counter Ranitidine drugs, such as ZANTAC from the market immediately.
Lawsuits are being filed alleging makers of Zantac and other Ranitidine drugs failed to warn users that the medicine can produce unsafe levels of a cancer-causing chemical called NDMA.
